GOING GREEN FOR EARTH DAY
April 22, 2020
2020 marks 50 years of celebrating Earth Day and honoring our beautiful planet. From reducing, reusing, and recycling, to conserving water and using reusable shopping bags, there are so many ways you can give back to the planet. We're excited to share with you some ideas for getting involved as well as choosing sustainable materials when building a custom home.
SUSTAINABLE HOME BUILDING
Choosing natural materials when designing your custom home may seem intimidating, but these exquisite materials can create a unique look while protecting the planet.
A durable and dramatic material that is sure to give your home an eye catching look, this material is created from moistened subsoil compounded together. When dried, the resulting block reveals subtle layers for an distinctive and unique look that is also environmentally friendly. Absorbing heat during the day and releasing it at night, this material can be used as thermal storage.
An extremely popular sustainable material, using recycled steel helps eliminate the excessive energy typically expended in the production and smelting of steel. Typically used in beams and girders, recycling this material saves approximately 75% of the energy costs utilized in making steel.
Sustainable due to its quick growth in comparison to pine and cedar, bamboo resembles wood aesthetically and can be used in tiles, trim & flooring, counter tops, and decks.
Not only is wool compostable, biodegradable, flame resistant and sound deadening, but it is also a non-toxic option for your home insulation. Providing improved air quality by retaining and releasing moisture, it is able to keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
